About Sentier
My Back Story
Here’s a little about Sentier Consulting, and how I got to be working with people like you.
I felt stuck in the grind— waiting & hoping for a way of working that wasn’t draining.
I longed for more time to do the things that made me feel alive—exploring new places, embracing adventure, and diving into ideas that sparked my curiosity.
For me, discovering a love of mountain running opened my eyes to something bigger. It wasn’t just about finding more time; it was about exploring my potential in every aspect of life.
I thought, there has to be a way to do this that feels more authentic, more like me.
I was stuck in the grind, feeling like I was waiting and hoping for a life and a way of working that didn’t leave me burnt out. I was constantly wishing I had more time to do the things that made me feel alive – exploring the world, adventuring in the wild and following ideas that piqued my curiosity.
Sport was always important to me, and discovering a love of running in the mountains helped me realise that what I really wanted was to explore my potential, across all aspects of my life. I love variety and the intellectual challenge of work, but I remember thinking ‘there has to be a way for work to let me be the real me – I don’t want to just follow the same path from here to retirement.’
I had to take chances
Underlying all this was a strong sense that I had more to give, and I knew there was more I wanted to achieve. But, I was frustrated because I didn’t know what or how I needed to change.
Then, it hit me that it was never going to happen if I just kind of … waited around for it…
The change came about because I was lucky enough to have people around me who asked me a hard questions. This helped me question my beliefs about what I was capable of, and figure out how to best work to my strengths. It took work, curiosity, a fair bit of courage, and a willingness to change my mind, but I found a different path.
I’d love to work with you to find your pathway
Throughout my career in the public service and consulting, I’d come across many clever, thoughtful and committed people who were asking similar questions. These people are doing such important work to make our world a better place, to support and lead the people around them. But things were stopping them from being as impactful as they wanted, from fulfilling their potential.
I realised that where I could have the most impact would be to help these people – people like you – figure out how to overcome the things which are standing in the way. Because it can be done.
These principles underpin my approach. I truly believe that having someone to help me work on me made all the difference to finding my path – working with people to realise their potential, and create sustaining and fulfilling work and ways of working.
